It’s been one year.
One year since we started on this journey of learning to give a damn. One year since we began to ask how can we do better? Because we have to do better.
It’s been one year since you joined us on this journey, and we just want to say thank you! Thank you for sticking with us and standing with us against fast fashion.
When we first began this journey last February, we both had so many questions about what was next in our careers. We knew that our passion was in bringing ethical and sustainable practices into the fashion industry and raising awareness to consumers about these issues but we didn’t have a ten-year plan laid out for our careers.
The idea for Not The New Black came from an eagerness to get in touch with our passions, to teach, and to learn. Since we didn’t have the means to jump right in and start a business of our own we started a blog. We viewed it as a small tangible step we could take to kick start our journey in ethical fashion. When we started it we didn’t know what it would become or how much we would connect with it.
In a year, a lot has happened. Since launching Not The New Black, Courtney has graduated and moved to California to work for her dream company, Krochet Kids. Morgan moved to Uganda for 6 months to work for the same company on the production side of things and returned to school to finish her undergrad.
In the midst of change came inconsistency. We had big ideas for Not The New Black but were not able to always carry them out. We apologize for this. But with change came growth and new perspectives. We’re excited to come back stronger in 2018 and continue on this journey with all of you.
We’re back in 2018 and ready to make this year our year. Ready to challenge ourselves and to challenge you. Ready to ask questions and search for answers. We’re declaring 2018 our year–the year of giving a damn.
This is a journey that we are on together and we want to do better, and we can only do that with your help. So tell us, what do you want to see more of? What are you eager to learn about? What would be helpful tools to become a more conscious consumer? What questions do you have? We want to know! Write a comment or drop an email at, notthenewblack@gmail.com. Keep us accountable.
2018, January was a trial-run. We’re ready for you.
